Clean is the new king in hotels. In the wake of COVID-19, hotels are competing on cleanliness. Hilton made news when it released its new stringent cleaning guidelines to protect its guests. As the industry slowly recovers, guests are paying attention
We have said before that clean designs are a great choice for hotels for many reasons. It makes things easier for your cleaning staff, and who does not want their employees to be happy? However, in this new normal, clean designs will become even more important. We are all concerned about the spaces we are in and how we can trust hotel brands to protect us as best they can.
What is Clean Design?

When we talk about clean design, what do we mean? In interior design, clean designs are ones that have a minimalist feel. It is uncluttered and simple.
What about surfaces? Texture makes a big difference in being easy to clean. Textured and porous countertops may have their place but are much more difficult to keep clean. A smooth countertop can be wiped down without any germs left behind. Stringent cleaning standards will also affect the kind of fabrics that we use since those will also need to be easy to clean.
When we are talking about surfaces, it is not just about material. We also want to think about how many surfaces there are to clean! Many cleaning professionals can remember cleaning a space that was full of spaces that needed to be dusted or straining themselves to get hard-to-reach places.
The Benefits of a Clean Design
Convincing your guests to feel safe and comfortable enough to travel again is going to rest on how clean they perceive the room to be. Hotels that have instituted new cleaning standards have made a strong step in that direction.
However, our perception is affected by our senses. How your guest FEELS when they walk into a room is going to impact how they view the room and their stay.
Therefore, a clean, uncluttered design will look clean as soon as your guest walks in the door. Smooth surfaces and a light palette will ensure that if there was any mess, it would be immediately visible. Your guests can stay with you and have confidence that they are in a clean, safe space.

Here at Lesley Wong Interiors, we know that there are many things that we do not know. How a hotel room stays clean in a practical, day-to-day basis is something that your cleaning staff will know inside and out. We believe in discussing the design with all staff at all levels to make sure that our design will fit into how your hotel operates.
We have heard so many times before that our industry has changed, and that we will all need to adjust how we do things moving forward. Please reach out so we can explain more how our Guest First Design Strategy can keep your hotel competitive as guests being to travel again.
